Pricing:

Our pricing model is fair and simple to understand. We take your horse or pony for an agreed period of time. During this time we provide full livery - that's in addition to the work he/she needs at no extra charge!

Horses/Ponies will be stabled and turned out if the weather is warm enough. Straw bedding is provided. Stables are mucked out each morning and skipped out each afternoon. Horses/Ponies are brought in during the evening, brushed off, feet picked out and have their rugs changed. All hay and hard feed are provided in the cost of the livery. Every horse is inspected twice each day in addition to the time it is being worked and handled.

Additional hay will be fed if necessary. The pasture will be maintained i.e. harrowed, rolled , topped etc. except pasture for small ponies which must not be too well managed due to the risk of laminitis.
Owners are responsible for providing any rugs (if needed) and each horse/ pony should have its own head collar.

FAQs

How much does it cost?

All our prices are per week. This is because your horse or pony may be ready sooner than another. We certainly don't keep them any longer than we need to - we are very busy!

So how much is it?

Here is a list of our weekly prices:

Price per week:

Breaking-in:

up to 11.2 hh             £60 per week inclusive

11.2 hh to 14.2hh     £85 per week inclusive

horses                       £130 per week inclusive.

Do I have anything else to pay?

The only extras are for farrier, vet and medical supplies (e.g. worm doses); we will always agree any farrier work or veterinary intervention with you in advance unless an emergency dictates otherwise.

Can I come and see my horse/ pony being ridden?
We invite you to come to the yard to watch/ ride your horse/ pony at regular intervals, we won't let you take it away unless you are completely satisfied!

How much does it typically cost?

Most horses can be started, backed and ridden away in about three weeks. There then needs to be a time for the horse to develop its three main paces; walk trot and canter, This is usually completed within a month. Around this time we will introduce your horse/pony to the wonderful pleasure of having a bath too!  After three weeks we may suggest a visit from the farrier as we will take the horse out on the roads to become acclimatised to traffic, plastic bags in hedges etc! So, for your typical 14.2hh pony you are looking at a total outlay of £405 inclusive. (4 weeks at £85 + set of shoes around £65),  This is money well spent on your horse/pony and is a worthwhile investment.

What about re-schooling?

We take in about 50 horses/ ponies each year who need re-schooling. Very often it's because they haven't been started very well! These are difficult problems sometimes and you should bank on around 6 weeks work - if only you had come to us first!!!

Not all are in this category and some may just want gently bringing back into work, or you may want them to learn a new job - like driving in a cart - and these horses/ ponies can be completed in around two to three weeks.

Are you fully insured?

This is a wise question and one you should ask any establishment you use. Yes! We are insured with full third party liability insurance from a specialist equine insurance broker. The only thing we don't have covered is for you riding your horse - and of course you already have that in place!  See below...

Why are your prices so competitive?

We are competitive because we have a small yard and so don't have huge overheads - you aren't subsidising a huge ménage or arena for show jumping activities. ( Although we access these facilities on your behalf).   We also believe that owning a horse or pony doesn't mean you should be ripped off! We charge a reasonable amount and make a good living!

Terms:

Terms are agreed before we take your horse or pony. Payment intervals will also be agreed if necessary but are usually due at the end of the month or before/on collection of the horse/ pony.

Cheques must clear before collection or cash is acceptable upon delivery or collection. Our standard contract is available for download in pdf format below.
